PURPOSE:
TO ENSURE THAT THERE IS ALWAYS A FIRE OFFICER ABLE TO RESPOND TO ANY AND ALL EMERGENCY AND OR SERVICE CALLS FOR THE DEPT. WITHIN THE HOURS OF 10:00 PM AND 6:00 AM. THIS WILL AID IN MINIMIZING THE RESPONSE OF ALL FIRE APPARATUS TO NUISANCE FIRE CALLS.
DUTY OFFICER RESPONSIBILITIES:
ALL OFFICERS OF THE BROAD BROOK FIRE DEPT. MUST VOLUNTARILY SIGN UP FOR A MINIMUM OF 5 NIGHTS A MONTH. THE DUTY OFFICER SHALL BE IN CHARGE OF ALL EMERGENCY CALLS IN HIS/HER SHIFT UNLESS A OFFICER OF HIGHER RANK ASSUMES COMMAND AT HIS/HER DISCRETION, AT WHICH TIME THE DUTY OFFICER WILL BE REASSIGNED BY THE NEW INCIDENT COMMANDER.
THE DUTY OFFICER SHALL HAVE AT HIS/HER DISPOSAL S-139 (2003 FORD EXPEDITION) TO BRING HOME AND HAVE TO RESPOND TO ALL CALLS DURING HIS/HER SHIFT. THEY SHALL ALSO BE ABLE TO USE THE DUTY OFFICER’S VEHICLE DURING HIS/HER SHIFT TO RUN ERRANDS WITHIN THE TOWN OF EAST WINDSOR.
DUTY OFFICER HOURS ARE FROM 2200HRS THRU 0600 HOURS 7 DAYS A WEEK. HOWEVER, THE SCHEDULED DUTY OFFICER IF HE OR SHE WISHES MAY ASSUME THEIR DUTIES AT AN EARLIER TIME THEY MAY DO SO ON THEIR SCHEDULED DAYS.
WHEN TN DISPATCH CALLS FOR A BROAD BROOK OFFICER, THE DUTY OFFICER SHALL CALL DISPATCH. IF AT ANY TIME TN DISPATCH RE-TONES FOR AN OFFICER, ANY OFFICER OF THE DEPT. MAY ANSWER THE PAGE.
WHEN RESPONDING TO MUTUAL AID IN SURROUNDING TOWNS, THE DUTY OFFICER WILL RESPOND TO THE STATION TO MAKE SURE THE MUTUAL AID TRUCK IS ADEQUATELY STAFFED. THE DUTY OFFICER WILL RESPOND AS NEEDED TO BE A LIAISON BETWEEN HIS/HER CREW WITH THE OFFICER IN COMMAND OF THAT TOWN.
THE DUTY OFFICER SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL EMERGENCY REPORTS AND ACCIDENT REPORTS DURING HIS/HER SHIFT.
A MONTHLY LIST WILL BE FAXED TO TN DISPATCH OF THE DUTY OFFICER LIST. AT WHICH TIME TN MAY CALL THE DUTY OFFICER AT HIS/HER HOME INSTEAD OF PAGING FOR AN OFFICER
